CITIES IN-PERSON WORKSHOP: AIR QUALITY FUNDAMENTALS
On Sunday, December 5th, 2021, CITIES Post-Graduation Research Fellow – Vince Nguyen held an In-Person Workshop about Air Quality Fundamentals at the Conference Center A6 at NYUAD. The workshop was valuable to explore air quality in Abu Dhabi and how we can reduce exposure to air pollution for our well-being.
Abstract:
Did you know that Abu Dhabi’s 2020 air quality exceeded the WHO guidelines by more than 4 times? This equates to a reduction of 2 years from one’s life expectancy according to UChicago research. What does this mean for our well-being and what can we do to lower our exposure to air pollution? In this interactive in-person practical workshop, we will explore the constituents of outdoor and indoor air quality, with a focus on Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat Island. We will then explore data visualization tools to compare that to each of our hometowns. Finally, we will go through everyday activities that can make indoor air quality deteriorate and measures that anyone can take to reduce their exposure to air pollution.
